Help Your Child Develop Their Inner Picasso
Painting is an entertaining activity that encourages hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, creativity and self-expression. It also helps children gain a sense of achievement and pride as they create their own works of art.
Below are some fun activities your child can do with paint at home.
Infants & Toddlers (Ages 0-2)
Provide your little one with a piece of paper and bubble wrap dipped in paint. Encourage him to pick up the bubble wrap and make fun patterns on the paper. He’ll love exploring the different colors and shapes and feeling the paint on his hands.
Beginners (Ages 2-3)
Paint using non-traditional utensils like Q-tips, forks, or sponges. Ask your child to paint a picture or a variety of patterns. Encourage him to talk about what he painted and the colors he used.
Intermediates (Ages 3-4)
Lay a large piece of white poster paper or an old white sheet on the ground outdoors. Have your child dip a paint brush in paint and flick his wrist to splatter paint across the paper or sheet. Experiment with different colors and by splattering close to the surface and from far away.
Pre-K/Pre-K 2 (Ages 4-5)
Start a journal with your child. Have him paint a picture of something that happened during the day. Next to the picture, have him try to write some words that relate to it. Inventive spelling is appropriate at this age.
