As the New Year begins we look forward to spending valuable days with your child. I love looking back at all we accomplished at the school the prior year.
In 2016 our school was awarded two grants. The grant recognized the school for it’s excellence in delivering a quality preschool program to the children we serve. The Rewarding for Excellence grant given to us through Smart Start of Mecklenburg County gave our staff the opportunity for additional training in areas of interest, provided new classrooms items for the children and for the staff, playground equipment and materials to support our children in their love for learning.
The second grant through Mecklenburg County Heath and Family Services. It allowed us to focus on the well being of the children. We met all of our 9 goals. The grant gave us the opportunity to develop gross motor skills in and out of the classroom with the students, introduce over 26 new foods, develop menus that include more fresh fruit and fresh vegetables, reduce unnecessary sugar, and include whole grain products to replace the traditional items. Our school was awarded a new tunnel and exploration piece for use outdoors.
2016 our staff spent over 2300 doing training hours at local colleges, workshops and in house to ensure we remain abreast on the early childcare education. The staff took time outside of their work hours to attend the workshops and to collaborate with professionals in our field. Through the trainings we were able to write an Emergency Response Plan for the school. The plan was developed to give our staff the knowledge of how to handle emergency situations we could face while caring for children. We practice monthly fire drills, quarterly lock down and adverse weather drills.
Our Links to Home has been awesome! We love the enhancement to communication with you. The new year we will be using in additional ways to increase your awareness of your child’s day.
Our ancillary programs were successful this year. We used the funds for outdoor playground enhancements. We purchased new tricycles, and gross motor equipment . Thank you for supporting us in our Little Caesar, Yankee Candle and other catalog/online sales programs. Our in house programs of Jump Bunch, Music for Little Ones, and Soccer Shots continued to grow.
Our school was recognized in 2016 by the Nobel Learning corporation with the Pro Award. This recognition comes to a staff who was so deserving. The care, nurturing and education standards they give each day to the families we serve deserves to be recognized as outstanding. I am very proud of their commitment to excellence!
2017 will be great year! We are planning a fun filled summer, looking forward to graduating one of the largest classes of Pre K students since the school opened and the continued use of our new Parent Communication tool Links to Home will deliver the communication we want our families to have. Thank you for being a part of our school and the Chesterbrook Academy family.
