A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2016/2017 school year! Well, we made it through the first two weeks of school, and the children are adjusting well to their new school environment. Goodbyes are getting a little easier for all! What a joy to see our returning students who have moved to the next level as well as the many new families who have joined our academy this year. Thank you, for your continued support and trust. We are committed to providing your children with the best educational opportunities possible and look forward to all the 2016/2017 school year has in store for us.
Our teachers have a busy fall planned, so please remember to review parent boards, lobby displays as well as our school website, so you are connected with all that is happening at school.
The first school-wide event this year is our “Johnny Appleseed Day” on Monday, September 26th. During that week students will learn about John Chapman an American historical figure who went across America planting apple seeds and helping pioneers settle their land. Johnny was known for wearing a pot on his head. He used it to make mush from apples and kept it on his head when he was traveling. The teachers have planned fun and creative ways to integrate math, language, wellness, creative expression and science skills into their lesson plans by using apples. Please send your child to school with an aluminum pot to wear for our Johnny Appleseed Parade day.
Our annual Trunk or Treat event will be on Friday, October 28th. It’s a fantastic opportunity to take your little one’s trick or treating in a safe and fun environment while being able to socialize with other Chesterbrook Academy families and friends. A lobby display will go up soon with specific details about this year’s fun-filled Trunk or Treat family event.
Beginning September 1st, our Links to Learning curriculum will be in full swing. You will start to see evidence of what your child is learning at school on hallway and classroom education boards as well as daily Links 2 Home communication and the overview of “What We Learned Today” posted on each classroom door. Learning activities are taking place daily, in all age groups and displayed. You can expect to receive your child’s “My Fun and Busy Month” folder, sent home at the end of every month. Not all learning ends with a tangible product, and sometimes it’s a learning experience. For this reason, teachers are committed to communicating with you daily, weekly, monthly about the process of learning that is going on in their classroom. We also like to take pictures, so you can see the steps your child took to learn a particular skill. Ok, enough of me telling you about how we show evidence of learning, I will let the teachers take over from here.
Please remember, my door is always open if you should have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for sharing your treasures!

Your child grabs a toy from a playmate, tears erupt, and you immediately tell him to say, “I’m sorry.” Does this sound familiar? Although apologizing might seem to diffuse the situation, these words alone don’t fix hurt feelings, nor do they help your child understand how or why he caused[.....]

A Powerful Connection to a Lifetime of Learning
Your children experience the perfect balance of learning and play in a safe, nurturing environment. You will receive progress updates, as well as ideas to continue learning at home.
You can expect to receive daily communication and pictures via email through our Links 2 Home program. And, we also encourage you to take a few moments each week to review your child’s classroom Links to Learning “Parent Board”, so you can “Link” to your child’s early education experiences. Posted are “Weekly Skills”, “Lesson Plan”, “Daily Schedule”, “Monthly Spanish” and “Learning Outcomes”.
SIGN-IN & SIGN OUT LOGS:
Signing your child in and out daily is not only a licensing and company policy but, an added security measure, which ensures all children are accounted for while in our care. PLEASE, BE DILIGENT ABOUT RECORDING YOUR CHILD’S ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIMES. Thank you!
SICK POLICY:
The purpose of our sick policy is to reduce the spread of illness among our students and to encourage full recuperation of sick children before they return to school. We depend on parents to assist us in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our children.
Children may be sent home if they have any concerning symptoms. Also, a child must be free of all of these symptoms for at least 24 hours before he/she can return to school. These symptoms include:
- A Fever of 100 degrees or more
- Vomiting within the previous 24-hour period
- Diarrhea within the previous 24-hour period
- Symptoms of a communicable disease
- Fussy, cranky behavior and not himself/ herself
Following an illness, a child may return to school once he/she has either been seen by a doctor or it has been determined that illness is not contagious. (A doctor’s clearance may be requested.) Please help us keep all of our children healthy by following these rules. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you for your support!

WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
PARKING – As many of you have experienced, finding a parking space between 8:45am & 9:15am is challenging. Assigning a parking attendant is not possible, so we are asking families to please be considerate during drop-off and pick-up times by not parking in an area that is not a designated parking space. There is a field on the north side of the building that we have permission to use for parking. You are welcome to park there during drop-off and pick-up times. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE DUMPSTER.
Thank you!
