A Note From Our Principal
Happy April! Now that spring has arrived, we’re looking forward to spending even more time exploring the outdoors. Taking advantage of the beautiful weather helps children learn and grow as they discover new things in their environment. Our teachers are planning outdoor games, lessons and picnics to celebrate spring. We can’t wait to share these activities with your child.
We are also preparing for our spring planting season. Our children are putting in their suggestions for our gardens. The infants have already requested a butterfly and hummingbird garden in one of our flower beds. We will also be growing vegetables and herbs. As a part of our Earth Day celebration, we would like to use recycled materials that are child friendly. To that end, we are asking for old rain boots, crocs, and old water bottles to assist us in making our gardens child friendly.
Finally, April is National Poetry Month. What a wonderful time to read poems with your children and listen to all of the different tyes of words and sounds. There are so many wonderful poets who write for children! Such as The Season’s Campaign by Joyce Sidman. from Song of the Water Boatman & Other Pond Poems
I. Spring
We burst forth,
crisp green squads
bristling with spears.
We encircle the pond.
II. Summer
Brown velvet plumes
bob jauntily. On command,
our slim, waving arrows
rush toward the sun.
III. Fall
All red-winged generals
desert us. Courage
clumps and fluffs
like bursting pillows.
IV. Winter
Our feet are full of ice.
Brown bones rattle in the wind.
Sleeping, we dream of
seed-scouts, sent on ahead.
Sincerely,
Marlo Walston
