A Note from the Principal:
Happy New Year! Welcome 2021!
The year 2020 gave us a little more to deal with than we ever wanted or expected; but, if we take a minute to think about it, it also gave us new opportunities to learn and grow. Who would have thought that preschoolers would be doing distance learning? What preschool or any teacher thought that they would be teaching remotely from the comfort or chaos of their own home? Who ever thought that virtual hugs could make you feel so good?
Life certainly changed for all of us, but we proved once again that we can survive anything we put our minds to doing. The children have adapted far better than any of us ever thought. They have been amazing! Being around them has taught us so much. They showed us resourcefulness in completing assignments and making special creations from scraps of material and things around the house. The teachers learned to look around and find resources in their homes to make learning more fun and to the point. Sometimes it even meant involving their own children as props, and I had to laugh when Ms. Mueller told me that her refrigerator had become her new whiteboard! Graduations and concerts still took place-just in a different way.
The children learned more about community outreach during this time and helping others cope through their handmade gifts of love and cards. They learned how to build and make games instead of having them provided for them. They actually learned how to converse more and learned that looking someone in the eye when speaking can make a big difference in someone understanding what they are saying-especially from six feet apart.
So when I say that I have never been more happy to welcome a new year, I have to give pause and admit that 2020 had its blessings too. I count all of you and my wonderful staff as reasons to celebrate the year just ending. Together you helped make our return to school possible. Together you have helped make our return to school safe. Together you have helped us keep everyone healthy. These are, in no way, small things. They are huge. I thank each one of you for all you have done and continue to do to keep us going strong. Thank you!
