A Note From Our Principal,
Fall is in full swing and our students are enjoying the extra outdoor time and seasonal curriculum activities. We are planning a few fun fall-themed activities for our students this month and are excited to share photos with you all through Links 2 Home. Additionally, school portraits will be taken this month, so please read more info about this event below. Also, with cooler weather brings changes in clothing, so please make sure your child has appropriate outwear and extra clothing at school. Please label everything, including masks. Younger children have a hard time distinguishing their clothing from another child’s. This really helps us during busy pick-up time. Also, please remember to put a legible, bold-printed sign in your windshield when you come to pick your child up. It is nearly impossible to see through the afternoon sun to recognize parents’ faces inside their cars. As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. The school year is off to a great start! Thanks to you all for your flexibility and support as we adjust to the “new normal.”
Sincerely,
Lisa Fawver, Principal
Lifetouch Portrait Days
October 7th and October 8th are Lifetouch Portrait Days for this fall. Due to Covid restrictions, these events will look different this year. First, Lifetouch will be set up across the parking lot, in the elementary school gym. A staff member will be facilitating the portraits, and will help with any grooming or posing that is needed. The Lifetouch photographer will maintain at least a 6 ft. distance from all children, and will be masked the whole time. Children will wear a mask until it’s time for their portrait to be taken. This year, we will not be using any props, and the backdrop will be a simple one, determined by the photographer. Lastly, we will not be taking sibling pictures this fall. Hopefully, both classroom groups and sibling pictures will be available again during our spring session. Every preschool child’s picture will be taken, unless you specify in writing that you don’t want us to include your child this fall. Portraits will be available to view on-line, and parents can purchase any poses they like. There is no purchase required, if you don’t like the pictures. Below is the schedule for when students in each classroom takes their pictures. If your child doesn’t attend on his/her scheduled day, let us know and we can make an adjustment.
Wednesday, October 7th: Infants, Toddlers, and Pre-k
Thursday, October 8th: Beginners, Intermediates, and Pre-k2
New Spirit Wear Coming Soon
Later this month we will be emailing you all with information on how to order our awesome new Illinois-themed school spirit wear. Our families and staff have supported each other and stuck together during this crazy time and we can’t wait to share our school pride with our community. Keep an eye on your inbox for more details!
Classroom Halloween Door Decorating Contest
Students and teachers are hard at work coming up with ideas to decorate their classroom doors with fun, not-too-spooky Halloween themes. Each door will be finished and ready for voting on October 26th. Photos of all the doors will be sent home via Links 2 Home, and parents will have an opportunity to vote on each door, based on several categories. This is the fourth year we have hosted this fun, all-school event, and are excited that our Club Connect school-age classrooms will be joining in on the fun this year!
Halloween Parties
In order to follow our current state restrictions, we will not be able to host our traditional Halloween Parade this year, nor will parents be able to attend our classroom parties. Student parties will be held in the morning on Friday, October 30th, and will still have treats, crafts, music, and Halloween games. Children should come to school in their costumes, with a change of clothes for later. We will spend the morning doing fun Halloween-themed activities, taking photos of children in their costumes, and will announce the winners of the Door Decorating Contest. We know that families and staff typically look forward to class parties because they allow us to be together as a school community and give parents an opportunity to get to know their child’s classmates and parents. Unfortunately, we are still not allowed to invite parents into our classrooms for celebrations, but will make sure to share lots of photos with you all on Links 2 Home. Thank you for your support and flexibility!
