A Note From Our Principal,
We hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones and we enjoyed celebrating with you all last month. As the winter holidays approach we have many special events planned for our students and families and look forward to spending time with you all. We’ve also enclosed important winter and holiday procedure reminders in this newsletter. Please read through it carefully and reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Inclement Weather Reminders
We do not always follow the closure schedule of the local public schools because we don’t have to contend with the same transportation issues as public schools. Our goal is to be open as many days as possible to support our working parents. If we must close because our teachers cannot safely get to work, you will receive a notification via Links 2 Home as soon as the closure is announced. We also post notifications on our website and Facebook page.
Winter Clothing Reminder
If you’ve not already done so, please check your child’s cubby to ensure they have an extra set of weather appropriate clothes. Students also need to come to school each day with a jacket and dressed warm enough to play outside for part of the day. If the weather is brisk we still go outside for active games and want everyone to be able to participate!
Holiday Attendance
To staff the day(s) accordingly during Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas, we are asking families to let us know if your child is attending during the week of December 23rd. There is a sign off sheet on your child’s classroom door
Tree House Book and Coat Drive
This winter we are participating in two events to help local resources; Tree House Books and Project HOME. Last year we donated 500 books and over 100 coats to these organizations! We are asking for your help again from December 2nd through January 2nd.
Tree House Books is a Giving Library and Literacy Center headquartered in North Philadelphia. Founded in 2005, it provides free books to children and families, and Out of School Time (OST) programs that increase literacy skills, and promote a lifelong love of reading and writing. Please bring in any new or used books for all ages until January 2nd!
Project HOME is a non-profit organization in Philadelphia. They collect all year round to serve the homeless. We are asking for winter coats for all ages, as well as winter accessories (hats, scarves, and gloves). The coat drive will end on Dec. 20th.
Scholastic Book Fair
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be held in our lobby from December 2nd-6th. Parents can shop with or without their child during school hours. 40% of all sales is returned back us to buy books for the school! This is a great opportunity to buy the gift of reading for anyone on your shopping list. You can also contribute books to your child’s classroom through a class wish list.
Cookie Exchange and Pajama Day
On December 11th, our classrooms will be making special treats! During afternoon pick up, each classroom will set out their tray of treats in the lobby for everyone to enjoy. Fill up a cookie bag and a cup of hot cocoa for your ride home. Don’t forget to wear your coziest winter PJ’s!
