Spring is in the air!!! April is an exciting month for Chesterbrook Academy. We have lots of exciting events and activities coming up.
This month we will celebrate EARTH Day! Our Earth day celebrations will begin April 20th. This year we will release ladybugs and plant our very own gardens at our school playground. We would like the entire school to show love to the ladybugs they day by dressing in red and black. Planting gardens is an amazing activity to do with children. The sensory experience of touching soil, scooping dirt and pouring the water, are all great for sensory development. The act of planting and tending to the garden also increases empathy, as children are caring for something on their own. The act of watching something grow and change is magical for children. If you are interested in contributing plants, please see the front office.
April also the month of “The Week of the Young Child.” We have a week of fun activities planned as we celebrate growth and development for preschool children everywhere.
We would like to thank you for registering during our Early Bird Registration period. We are looking forward to the new school year. If you haven’t done it already, please register. It is open now to the public and space is very limited.
Our team is working on summer camp information! We will be adding some final touches to the calendar over the next couple days. We hope to have the summer camp calendar, sunscreen forms, and water play permission slips out to you by the end of this week. let us know your summer plans and/or any vacations you may be having so we can make staffing arrangements for the summer. Please reach out if you have any questions we are always available to help you.
Linking Learning with Nature
Spring is here! Flowers are blooming, days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer. Now is a great time for children to explore the environmental changes happening in the world around them.
Not only are children curious about nature, but research shows that it has a profound influence on their problem solving skills, creativity, imagination and cognitive ability. Because of this, our teachers incorporate nature in all aspects of our Links to Learning curriculum. Below are ways we connect learning with nature, as well as activities you can do with your child at home.
BEGINNERS (ages 2-3):
Help make your child become aware of the seasonal changes going on. Talk a walk with your child and ask questions such as “Why do we see flowers growing now?” or “What do flowers need in order to grow?” Encourage him/ her to use their creativity when answering.

INTERMEDIATES (ages 3-4):
Set up a bird feeder outside a window that your child can easily see. Let them help you fill it with bird food. As the birds come to eat, ask your child questions and to talk about what they know about birds. “What color are they?” “Are they big or small?” “What are they doing?”

PRE-K/PRE-K 2 (ages 4-5) :
Reuse junk mail for a fun arts and crafts activity with your child. Encourage to look through flyers and magazines to find words and pictures that they recognize. Then, ask to create a collage by cutting and gluing them to a piece of paper or poster board.

Vacation and Schedule Requests:
Two Weeks Written Notice is required to request your free week vacation after six (6) full months of enrollment (1 vacation week per School Year), and four weeks’ notice for any schedule changes.

As many of you have experienced, finding a parking space on drop-off and pick up time is quite challenging. We are asking families to please be considerate during these times by not parking in an area that is not a designated parking space. You are welcome to park on the street sides or at the Rachel Carson parking lot.
Nut-Free School:
We would like to remind our families that we are a PEANUT AND NUT FREE SCHOOL. We have many children with nut allergies. We ask parents kindly to try their best to not bring food from home specially juice, candy, cookie etc.
SICK POLICY:
The purpose of our sick policy is to reduce the spread of illness among our students and to encourage full recuperation of sick children before they return to school. We depend on parents to assist us in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our children. Children may be sent home if they have any concerning symptoms. In addition, a child must be free of all of these symptoms for at least 24 hours before he/she can return to school. These symptoms include:
- A Fever of 100 degrees or more
- Vomiting within the previous 24-hour period
- Diarrhea within the previous 24-hour period
- Symptoms of a communicable disease
- Fussy, cranky behavior and generally not himself/ herself

Toy Policy:
Toys from home are NOT permitted at school. Please refrain from allowing your child to bring in toys from home, unless it is their scheduled show and share day. CBA is NOT responsible for toys that are brought from home that can get lost or broken.
Cubby Items:
Spring has arrived! This is a great time to check your child’s cubbies for weather appropriate clothing. Please add child’s rain boots.
