From the Office of the Principal
Dear Parents,
Our 2017-2018 school year is underway! We have just started our first week of school and the children are adjusting well to their new classrooms. Saying goodbye every morning is getting easier for all! It has been great to see our returning students move to the next level as well as the many new families who have joined our Chesterbrook Academy family this school year. Thank you all for your continued support and trust. We are committed to providing your children with the best educational opportunities possible and look forward to everything the 2017-2018 school year has in store for us.
Our teachers have a busy fall planned, so please remember to review parent boards, lobby displays as well as our school website so that you are connected with all that is happening at school.
We have many events going in during the month of September. We enjoyed our Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 4. Our Charleston Wrap Fundraiser Event started last week, and please remember all orders must be turned in by THIS Monday, September 11. Also, beginning this week, our Links to Learning curriculum will be in full swing. You will begin to see evidence of what your child is learning at school on hallway and classroom education boards as well as a daily overview of “What We Learned Today” posted on each classroom parent board. Although a variety of activities take place daily in all age groups and displayed and sent home at the end of every month, not all learning ends with a tangible product–sometimes it’s a learning experience. For this reason, teachers are committed to communicating with you daily, weekly, monthly about the process of learning that is going on in their classroom, especially through our Links 2 Home app (available at the App Store as well as Android phones). We also like to take pictures so you can see the activities your child participated in to learn a particular skill. Be on the lookout….hallway bulletin boards will start popping up showing your child at work and play.
We will have Lifetouch Preschool Portraits here to take Fall Portraits of the children. Infants, Toddlers, and 2-year-olds will take pictures on Thursday, September 14, and 3-year-olds and PreK classes will take pictures on Friday, September 15. If you would like to take sibling pictures and your children take pictures on different days, we can make sure to get their pictures taken on the same day to make it more convenient–please see someone at the front to make that arrangement. Also, please make sure that your Lifetouch picture forms are turned in with your background and additional preferences. All forms went out to families last week, but please make sure get one from the front desk if you do not have one.
We have had Demo Days for all of our potential ancillary programs, including Soccer Shots (Wednesdays), Music for Little Ones (Tuesday afternoons), Jumpbunch (Friday mornings), Daisy Dance (Monday mornings), and Amazing Athletes (TBD). These programs will be starting up next week, and there are still plenty of spots left in all of these programs! Please make sure to get brochures and sign-up forms for each program in the lobby.
Finally, we would like to take this time to recognize Ms. Denise Stowe, which we now recognize as our third-in-charge administrator. You all may have seen Ms. Denise at the front desk opening in the mornings or closing in the afternoons. Ms. Denise has been here at the school for almost 4 years now, and also served as a teacher for 5 years and an Assistant Director for 5 years another preschool before joining Chesterbrook Academy in 2013. She does a wonderful job in the classroom as well as in administrative duties around the school, and all the children love her! Please congratulate Ms. Denise if you see for being so amazing as our third-in-charge!
As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Kindest Regards,
William Gordon, Principal
Candi Staines, Assistant Principal

Topics: Social-Emotional Learning
Young children experience many of the same emotions that adults do, but often don’t have the vocabulary available to talk about how they are feeling. You’ve probably been concerned or confused when your child seems emotional, but you don’t know why. He might yell, throw toys or seem quieter than usual,[.....]
