Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2017/2018 school year! Well, we made it through the first two weeks of school, and the children are adjusting well to their new school environment. Goodbyes are getting a little easier for all! What a joy to see our returning students who have moved to the next level as well as the many new families who have joined our academy this year. Thank you, for your continued support and trust. We are committed to providing your children with the best educational opportunities possible and look forward to all the 2017/2018 school year has in store for us.
Our teachers have a busy fall planned, so please remember to review parent boards, lobby displays as well as our school website, so you are connected with all that is happening at school.
The first school-wide event this year is our “Johnny Appleseed Day” on Monday, September 25th. During that week students will learn about John Chapman an American historical figure who went across America planting apple seeds and helping pioneers settle their land. Johnny was known for wearing a pot on his head. He used it to make mush from apples and kept it on his head when he was traveling. The teachers have planned fun and creative ways to integrate math, language, wellness, creative expression and science skills into their lesson plans by using apples. You are welcome to join us for our Johnny Appleseed parade and enjoy a slice of apple pie with your child.
Our annual Trunk or Treat event will be on Friday, October 27th. It’s a fantastic opportunity to take your little one’s trick or treating in a safe and fun environment while being able to socialize with other Chesterbrook Academy families and friends. A lobby display will go up soon with specific details about this year’s fun-filled Trunk or Treat family event.
Beginning September 1st, our Links to Learning curriculum will be in full swing. You will start to see evidence of what your child is learning at school on hallway and classroom education boards as well as daily Links 2 Home communication with an overview of “What We Learned Today” emailed daily. Learning activities are taking place daily, in all age groups and displayed. You can expect to receive your child’s “My Fun and Busy Month” folder, sent home at the end of every month. Not all learning ends with a tangible product, and sometimes it’s a learning experience. For this reason, teachers are committed to communicating with you daily, weekly, monthly about the learning that is going on in their classroom. We also like to take pictures, so you can see the steps your child took to learn a particular skill. Alright, enough of me telling you about how we show evidence of learning, I will let the teachers take over from here.
On a final note for September, I am pleased to announce two new additions to our administrative team.
Ms. Laura Ward, who most of you know, has successfully taught Pre-K for several years, while assisting administratively and mentoring her peers in quality curriculum instruction. Her hard work and commitment to our school combined with her desire to support our teachers in continually raising the bar, make her the perfect choice to help lead our school as Assistant Principal.
Ms. Nina Jewett, is joining our team as Office Manager on September 5th. She holds BS in business administration and comes to us with a wealth of experience in not only business management but education as well. I am confident her skills will serve our school well.
Please join me in congratulating Laura on her promotion and welcoming Nina to our school
Thank you for sharing your beautiful children!

Topics: Social-Emotional Learning
Young children experience many of the same emotions that adults do, but often don’t have the vocabulary available to talk about how they are feeling. You’ve probably been concerned or confused when your child seems emotional, but you don’t know why. He might yell, throw toys or seem quieter than usual,[.....]

SICK POLICY:
The purpose of our sick policy is to reduce the spread of illness among our students and to encourage full recuperation of sick children before they return to school. We depend on parents to assist us in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our children.
Children may be sent home if they have any concerning symptoms. Also, a child must be free of all of these symptoms for at least 24 hours before he/she can return to school. These symptoms include:
- A Fever of 100 degrees or more
- Vomiting within the previous 24-hour period
- Diarrhea within the previous 24-hour period
- Symptoms of a communicable disease
- Fussy, cranky behavior and not himself/ herself
Following an illness, a child may return to school once he/she has either been seen by a doctor or it has been determined that illness is not contagious. (A doctor’s clearance may be requested.) Please help us keep all of our children healthy by following these rules. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you for your support!
TUITION: Tuition is due the 1st business day of every month. Accounts not paid in full by 12:00 pm the fifth business day of every month will automatically receive a late fee of $25. If tuition is not paid in full by the 7th business day of each month, your child may not attend until the balance is paid in its entirety. Failure to comply with tuition policies will result in a notice of dis-enrollment. If you’d like to sign up for our ACH program, which automatically pulls your monthly tuition from the account of your choice the 1st business day of every month, just let us know, and we will help get you enrolled.
ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FEES: If your child is signed up to attend a specific enrichment program, the monthly fee must be paid in full the first week of every month, or your child may not attend the second week. Please understand, we are obligated to pay our physical fitness vendors promptly for their services. Credits will not be issued for missed classes due to absence or non-payment.
CATERED LUNCH PROGRAM ADVANCE ORDERING REQUIRED Monthly lunch order forms are available two weeks before each new month. Please be sure to turn your lunch order in with payment no later than the posted deadline. Late orders may not be honored. Pizza Friday orders for the entire month must also be turned in by the deadline. Ordering lunch is an optional service. You may also send lunch from home.
WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND PATIENCE! PARKING – As many of you have experienced, finding a parking space between 8:45am & 9:15am and 11:45am & 12:15pm is quite challenging. We are asking families to please be considerate during drop-off and pick-up times by not parking in an area that is not a designated parking space. There is a field on the north side of the building that we have permission to use for parking. You are welcome to park there during drop-off and pick-up times. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE DUMPSTER. The Port St. Lucie Police Department will periodically patrol our parking lot during peak hours and issue citations for any vehicles that are parked illegally. If you have any concerns, please report them to the administration. Thank you!
