A Note From Our Principal
Thank you all for your participation in our Kids Helping Communities Initiative this summer. Our Campers started off the summer celebrating our First Responders with a parade in their honor which so many of you supported with your presence. We ended the month by remembering our GrandFriends at New Seasons of New Britain who have not been able to receive visitors and needed to know that they were not forgotten. Our children made special crafts for all of the residents to decorate their doors, windows, and hallways.
Each class picked a craft that they thought the residents would enjoy. The Preschool Class made big Happy Faces to decorate their rooms and Lollipop Fans and Bookmarks. The Junior Campers made Fancy Paper Weights by painting smooth rocks with glitter paint and made a big sign for their hallway or Community Room that each signed with a message stating how much they missed seeing them. The Senior Campers made “Stained Glass Creations” to put on the windows in each resident’s room. The designs they made were beautiful, and when the sun shines through them, the colors just explode and create a glow in the room that would warm any heart. Some of these were made using transparencies and permanent markers, and others were made with classic “Shrinky Dinks.” They also made a collaborative Patchwork Quilt Wall Hanging out of paper with Spin Art Designs for all to enjoy.
Their gifts were greatly appreciated, and we agreed to send them cards each month to help cheer them up and in celebration of any birthdays.
July just flew by, and I think these last four weeks of Summer Camp will do the same. The Campers will be learning how to mime, play charades, and do some performing arts. They will be making puppets and learning how to put on a show.
We have a very busy month ahead of us which promises to be a great one! Stay tuned for more details.
Thank you for following all of the updated protocols to help us mitigate the risk for all in our Chesterbrook Family. You all have done a great job following the car line, wearing your masks, staying socially distant, answering the questions, packing lunches, and guiding your child to get his/her temperature taken. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
