The holiday season is a time when we celebrate community, diversity, and the universal joy of giving. In the classroom, we introduce children to holiday traditions observed around the world by singing songs, making art, and tasting favorite local seasonal foods, as well as those from other countries. I hope each of you had a great day of giving thanks with your family and friends. We ended the month of November here at school with a great evening of ceramics painting, classroom feasts, and family photos. The PTO did a great job with the photo event. While the weather was cold and windy, with rain arriving on Saturday as the last photo was taken, you would never know these conditions by the awesome photos that I saw. Each photo truly depicted the natural element of the individuals in the outdoors. I believe it is safe to say that this was such a successful event we will be hosting it again in the future. A job well done to Erin Wood who offered her photography skills and expertise!
This month so far all of the children have earned a stuffed animal and the card donations were a great hit! It is so nice to see the children participating and giving back. The ASPCA drive was a hit as well. Mrs. Rebecca has a lot of donations to take to the ASPCA of Perkiomenville. I saw dog food, pet beds, leashes, and pet bedding. I am sure all of these items will be greatly appreciated and accepted as families pursue their devotion to a new pet.
During the month of December, we are collecting hats, scarves, gloves and mittens for the Open Door in Royersford. These items will go to those less fortunate so they can keep warm in the upcoming colder winter days. There is no specific age, size or gender for these items. Please feel free to make your donations for an infant, child, teenager, or adult. With the long term forecasts that have been announced I am feeling pretty confident that all ages will be needing to bundle up in the upcoming weeks.
Starting next week those children whose parents sent in the holiday shopping lists will be participating in the holiday store! This is always an exciting event for the children, on the day they go shopping as well as the day they share their gifts with those that they purchase for. Each year I look forward to hearing the children’s reasoning as to why they are selecting their gift choice for their recipient, as well as the parent’s feedback after the gifts are handed out. It is not to late to return your child’s shopping list and money so they can participate in the shopping event. There are extra forms available at the office if you have misplaced yours.
The big holiday show is next Friday December 15th. The teachers and their students are all practicing daily. We will be having a big practice in Room 10 on Wednesday December 6th and Wednesday December 13th. I understand that there was some confusion to the reason we are charging for tickets this year. The PTO and I agreed that it was in the best interest of the families that we charge a small fee for entry to the event so we did not have the confusion like we did last year where we ran out of comfortable seating space and parking spaces. Please understand that your ticket cost is going directly to pay for the rental of the facility. In addition, each ticket you purchase will be entered into a drawing for a raffle basket that I understand will be full of fun goodies! I also understand that there is confusion as to what the children should wear on this evening of the event. Some classrooms will be wearing Santa hats and antler headbands which we are providing. As far as attire we are not specifying any attire for your child to wear, please dress them as you see fit to be on the stage as a “performer”. Last year we saw some sparkles of holiday clothing, some suits for boys, and casual wear. Whatever your child is comfortable in will be just fine. I did receive confirmation from Mr. and Mrs. Claus they will be there and their laps will be ready for the children to visit with them. After the show, we will also have a milk and cookies reception in the lobby of the Spring Ford Ninth Grade center.
Please remember that we are closed Monday December 25th and Monday January 1st to observe the holidays. We will not have any days that are modified hours for the holiday eves, due to the fact that they fall on Sundays. On each classroom door we have posted a sign up sheet so we know what children will be attending during the week between Christmas and New Year. Please let us know if your child will attend during this week. We do this to ensure that we can provide our teachers with extra time off to enjoy with their families if the ratios allow.
As we close out the year of 2017 we are planning for several teachers and children to transition to new classrooms. The children who are transitioning due to their age should have received the documentation in their mailbox. The last two weeks of December will include them visiting their new classrooms. A few teacher changes will be taking place, during this transition phase as well. If your child’s classroom teachers will be moving this is posted on their classroom door.
I am delighted and proud each day of the growing community our school is and am very proud of the fact that we are who we are because of the devotion and trust you have in our facility and faculty. As the season of giving is upon us, please remember that each day is a gift and I truly believe that my greatest gift is being surrounded by such awesome parents, students and staff!
Wishing you the best in the holiday season –
