Dear Parents,
Re-registration was a huge success! Thank you for taking advantage of our early bird period by securing your child’s space for the 2017/2018 school year. We are excited and thankful you have decided once again to choose Chesterbrook Academy for your child’s continuing education. We look forward to another year of watching your treasures grow in our care!
We are in the final stretch of our 2016/2017 school year, and it is clearly evident that our children are reaching new heights in development. Many of our students are working on higher level skills to meet their growing needs. That’s the beauty of our Links to Learning curriculum; it grows with your child. That said, student transitions to the next level will take place in the middle of June after our Pre-K graduation. You will be notified in advance to prepare your child for what lies ahead.
Whew…we survived our Lifetouch picture days! Thank you for your patience while we shifted classrooms and children around to accommodate our part-time and full-time families as well as sibling pictures. Lifetouch did a great job capturing all those beautiful faces. Portrait packages should arrive in about two weeks. Remember, you are not obligated to purchase pictures, but must return them. We have St. John Pictures coming up at the end of the month. These are candid black and white photos that are taken outside. They are so unique and lots of families look forward to these pictures every year.
Mark your calendar! On Friday, April 21st at 10:00am our students will participate in a hands-on learning experience about the environment as they release ladybugs to commemorate Earth Day. It is never too early to start teaching children the importance of keeping our planet clean and learning how to reduce, reuse, and recycle. With a little guidance and supervision, children can get creative helping our earth. After all, small steps can lead to big changes. Our Earth Day Ladybug release program is a pest management initiative. Ladybugs eat other harmful pests like aphids and mealy bugs providing an earth-friendly way to maintain the ecosystem without using harsh chemicals. On release day each child will have an opportunity to explore their senses as they hold ladybugs and watch them fly off to do their part in helping planet earth stay healthy and green. The excitement the children will have in releasing these little ladybugs is a sight to see. What a great nature experience. Leading up to this event, students will explore, create, and learn about the life cycle of a ladybug. The children will also create polka dot ladybug hats or wings to wear during the release.
Each class will also be making recycled art to celebrate Earth Day. We will be collecting recycled materials the entire week of April 17th that each class will use to make a class art piece. Look out for a letter with more details as we get closer to Earth Day.
