Dear Parents,
Welcome to all the new families who have joined our school community since the new year! We appreciate that you have chosen Chesterbrook Academy for your child’s early education.
By the end of February, parents whose children have been with us since the beginning of the school year should expect to receive a parent report. This form of lead teacher communication will provide you with a detailed account of how your child is progressing in all areas of development. Assessments also assist teachers in adjusting the level of instruction to meet individual needs. Once you review your parent report, you are welcome to schedule a parent/teacher conference if you would like to discuss your child’s development further. Just speak to the teacher. If you are new to Chesterbrook Academy, the next parent report will be sent home in May, right before the summer curriculum begins.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Cherrydale Catalog Fundraiser. Together we raised over $200. Our ButterBraid Fundraiser will begin February 27th, so look out for more information coming soon.
Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14th. We will have a school wide celebration where each class can bring in treats and celebrate friendship! Parents are more than welcome to join as well! At the beginning of the month, everyone should have received a class roster so you can bring in Valentine’s (cards, stickers, candy, etc.) for each friend if you would like. If you did not receive a list, please let us know. If you would also like to bring a snack for the class party, please sign up on the list in your child’s classroom. Please only bring store bought items and no nuts of any sort. Thank you!
February will be a fun month; please continue to read below we don’t want you to miss a thing!
Sincerely,
Lindsey Soban

Fun Recipe
Valentine’s Mice
What you’ll need:
- 6 cups of krispy rice cereal
- 4 cups of fresh mini marshmallows
- 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter
- Optional – red or purple dye (about 1/2 tsp. or until you get your desired color)
- Heart cookie cutter – I used a 3 in. cookie cutter
- Conversation hearts
- Pull N Peel licorice
- Black Nonpareils
- Wax paper
- 9 x 13 pan
- Medium sauce pan
What to do:
- Melt the butter in the saucepan and add the marshmallows
- Stir until smooth
- If you want the mice colored, add the coloring now and stir in
- Pour the marshmallow mixture into cereal and mix well
- Place wax paper into the 9 x 13 pan and pour the rice krispy mixture into the pan
- Spread the mixture out evenly
- Let the mixture cool slightly and then lift the wax paper up out of the pan
- Use the cookie cutter to make hearts and place them on another sheet of wax paper for decorating
- Decorate with conversation hearts for the ears, nonpareils for the eyes, red hot for the nose and licorice for the tail
- If your marshmallow treats have cooled too much the nose might not stick. Just grab a little marshmallow from the sauce pan and use that as glue
